Ukraine's President goes on sick leave with 'flu'

Protesters in Kiev defiantly rejected an amnesty offer passed by the Ukrainian parliament that promised to free imprisoned activists if they stood down and left occupied buildings.

Six people have been killed in Kiev and other Ukrainian cities in protests that erupted more than two months ago after President Viktor Yanukovich walked away from a treaty with the European Union under pressure from Russia.

Protesters have occupied key buildings in various cities, set up encampments in squares and erected barricades in streets. Under the conditions of the amnesty these would have to be dismantled and buildings vacated. It allows for peaceful protests, though.
However, protesters aren't in the mood to stand down.
‘These laws are a lie and people don't trust them,’ Oleh, a protester from Kiev, told Channel 4 News.
He added: ‘People were defending their constitutional rights and we actually don't understand what we need an amnesty.’ 

Archbishops criticise Nigerian and Ugandan anti-gay laws

 The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written to the presidents of Nigeria and Uganda, after being asked about laws there penalising gay people.

The letter said homosexual people were loved and valued by God and should not be victimised or diminished.

Nigeria and Uganda have both passed legislation targeting people with same-sex attraction.

The letter is also addressed to all primates (heads of national Churches) in the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Archbishops Justin Welby of Canterbury and John Sentamu of York said the letter was a result of "questions about the Church of England's attitude to new legislation in several countries that penalises people with same-sex attraction."...

In Nigeria this month, President Goodluck Jonathan signed into law a bill which bans same-sex marriages, gay groups and shows of same-sex public affection.

In Uganda, a bill allowing for greater punishments for Gays, and those who fail to turn them in to police, has been passed by parliament, but blocked - for now - by President Museveni.

The laws have been heavily criticised by gay and human rights groups.

Akure Airport Chose As Perishable Cargo Terminal

The Federal Government, through the aviation Minister, Mrs Stella Oduah, has disclosed that, the Akure Airport has been designated as a perishable cargo terminal.

Making this known on Monday, during

her visit to the airport under construction, in company of state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, Oduah noted that the perishable terminal would be a gateway to farmers and industrialists, stressing that it would also be a huge platform for employment generation and of a great economical advantage to the state..

The National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) embarked on a search and rescue operation to find the victims of a boat that capsized after reportedly colliding with another boat in the Navy town area of Lagos.

Other team members of the rescue group are Navy Special Boat Service, Nigeria Inland Water Agency Police Disaster Unit.

Doves Released by Pope Francis Brutally Attacked Immediately by Crows, Seagulls | Birds

A crow and a seagull attacked two white doves released by children standing next to Pope Francis on Sunday at St. Peter's Square. The birds of prey swooped down after the "peace" doves flew from the open window in the Apostolic Palace.

One dove broke free from the gull, after losing a few feathers in the fray. A crow pecked the other before both doves escaped and flew away. Their ultimate fate is unknown.
Thankfully, the Pope and children had walked away before the fly-by birding.

Video-Justin Bieber arrested on drunken driving, resisting arrest charges

Justin Bieber was charged with drunken driving, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license after police saw the pop star street racing early Thursday morning, Miami Beach police said.

"What the f*** did I do? Why did you stop me?" Bieber asked the police officer who pulled him over just after 4 a.m., according to the arrest report.

Bieber, 19, was released from a Miami jail an hour after he made a brief appearance through a video link before a Miami judge, who set a "standard" $2,500 bond Thursday afternoon.

He strutted out of the jail dressed in black, with a baggy hoodie covering his head. His pants appeared to be baggy leather. Bieber briefly sat on top of a black Cadillac Escalade, where he waved to screaming fans, before he was chauffeured away.
